GENERAL POLICIES
Eligibility
Applicants who wish to enroll in any of the Living
Earth courses or programs must:
- Be 19 years of age or older.
- Have completed grade 12 (or equivalent).
- Have enthusiasm for life and a love of herbs
and Nature.
Applicants who are not Canadian citizens must
be a Landed Immigrant or obtain a Student Visa [please see the International Students section of our website].
Discrimination Policy
Living Earth School of Herbalism is committed
to providing an environment that is free from intimidation, harassment
and discrimination and in which the rights and dignity of all individuals
are acknowledged and respected.
Course Load
General Interest students and students enrolled in
the Holistic Herbal Studies program may only enroll part-time.
Traditional Herbalist students may enroll part-time or full time.
Changing Course Load
Traditional Herbalist students may change their course
load as long as they meet the prerequisites of any courses that they
would like to attend.
Payment Plans
Students may choose any of the following four payment plan options:
Students are responsible for meeting their financial
obligations. Financial penalties may be applied for late payments. Payments
can be made by cash or cheque. All cheques are payable to ‘Living
Earth School.’ There is a $15 administrative charge for any NSF
or dishonored cheques issued to the School.
Textbooks, Equipment and Materials
Most courses include textbooks and a couple require equipment and/or
materials to be purchased by students. The cost of textbooks, equipment
and materials is not included in the tuition fees. These will be made
available to students by Living Earth at an additional cost (usually
at a 15% discount off of the suggested retail price).
Deposits
All course and program deposits are non-refundable.
Refunds
Course Refunds
In order for general interest students to be eligible for a full or
partial refund for individual course fees, students must notify the
program director of their intention to withdraw from the course before
the third class. Students who withdraw from a course by the end of the
first class are entitled to a full refund for the course, minus their
deposit. Students who withdraw after the first class but before the
third class are entitled to a refund equivalent to 50% of the cost of
the course. Students who withdraw from the third class onwards are not
entitled to a refund. This refund policy applies to all Living Earth
courses except The Spirit of Herbs.
The Spirit of Herbs
Students who wish to be eligible for a full or partial refund for The
Spirit of Herbs must notify the program director of their intention
to withdraw from the course before June 30. Students who withdraw before
May 31 are entitled to a full refund for the course, minus their deposit.
Students who withdraw from June 1 to June 30 are entitled to a refund
equivalent to 50% of the cost of the course. Students who withdraw after
June 30 are not entitled to a refund.
Holistic Herbal Studies
Students enrolled in the Holistic Herbal Studies program that have paid for the program in full who wish to withdraw from the program must provide a written notice of program withdrawal to the program director. Students who withdraw from the program are financially responsible for payment of the tuition for all courses that they have attended up to the end of the course that they are attending at the time that they withdraw from the program at the course-by-course payment rate, and a $50 deposit for each course that they have not yet attended. Any additional tuition fees that have been paid will be refunded.
Traditional Herbalist
Students enrolled in the Traditional Herbalist program who wish to withdraw from the program must provide a written notice of program withdrawal to the program director.
Students who are paying their tuition in yearly installments are financially responsible for payment of the tuition for all courses that they have attended up to the end of the course that they are attending at the time they withdraw from the program at the monthly installment rate, plus the $500 program deposit. If this amount is less than their yearly tuition fee, the remainder will be refunded.
Students who are paying their tuition in monthly installments are financially responsible for all monthly payments up to the end of the course that they are attending at the time they withdraw from the program, plus the $500 program deposit. Any additional post-dated monthly cheques will be returned to the student.
Dismissal
Students enrolled in any course or program may be dismissed for
any of the following:
- Poor academic standing.
- Poor attendance.
- Violent or abusive behavior.
- Violation of the Living Earth Discrimination
Policy.
- Students misrepresenting themselves as certified
practitioners.
- Failure to meet financial obligations.
The decision to dismiss any student is under the sole
discretion of the program director.
Graduates of the Holistic Herbal Studies
Program
Students who successfully graduate from the Holistic Herbal Studies
program will receive a Holistic Herbal Studies certificate. Graduation
from this program is not a qualification to practice herbalism or any
other holistic healing modality. Graduates who wish to practice as a
professional herbalist should consider enrolling in the Traditional
Herbalist program.
Graduates of the Traditional Herbalist Program
Students who successfully graduate from the Traditional
Herbalist program will receive a Traditional Herbalist diploma and will
be qualified to use the Traditional Herbalist (T.H.) designation.
The Traditional Herbalist program is recognized by
the Ontario Herbalists Association (OHA). Graduates are eligible for
Professional membership in the OHA. Professional Members of the OHA
are qualified to use the Registered Herbalist (R.H.) designation as
long as they remain a member in good standing.
It is strongly recommended that all graduates
of the Traditional Herbalist program become Professional Members of
the OHA. All graduates of this program are expected to adhere to the
Code of Ethics and Code of Practice of the OHA, regardless of whether
they become professional members of the Association. Any Traditional
Herbalist graduate who violates the Code of Ethics or the Code of Practice
of the OHA may have their diploma revoked.
